Week 5 & 6 - Maya Springboard

So it's been a long 2 weeks and I'm smurfed out :)

Our project was to create a model, parent the limbs, create a set, texture/shade, light, and render out the scene. WHEW! My classmates are super creative and talented that I really needed to step up my game. It's still in progress, but I would love some feedback nonetheless :)

Here's my little smurf and his home. Our assignment was to create a character and a set, shade them, light the scene, add some cameras, and mess around with the render settings. Here's what I came up with:

Here's Mr. Smurf inviting you to his new home

The first floor

The second floor...he's still in the process of moving in...

Well I hop you enjoyed it! I know I did :)

Week 3 & 4 - Maya Springboard

I didn't do week 3!! OH NOS!!

Here's a quick recap. I've been working on How to Cheat in Maya, but have been struggling a bit because the 2012 files wouldn't work with Maya 2011...poop. I also got a book called Drawn to Life from my fantastic broseph! Thanks bro! Now I'm just waiting on Simplified Drawing for Planning Animation to come in the mail :T

The past two weeks Mike Gasaway has been teaching us workflow methods. Part 1 was planning and Part 2 was blocking. And Mr. Amazing Tech-Person, Jay Epperhart, taught us a bit about using the graph editor to bounce a ball. Thanks Guys!

This week's assignment is to create a bunch of random objects on a shelf. It took about 35 min. so I thought I'd add some color and a rig I got from Creative Crash called Buckid. It's a nice simple rig for beginners like moi.

Here's what I came up with:

And a couple closeups of my little guys

I really should do more, but I have to turn it in ASAP so my Maya Trainer, Kelly Perez, can take a look at it before our Q&A today! Ack! Alright, time to get back to work!

Happy Animating!

Week 2 - Maya Springboard

Hmm...so sadly I haven't done much animation work. I've been trying to get into "How to Cheat in Maya," but I keep getting distracted. I hope this doesn't happen when there's assignments due!

This week Drew Adams taught us a bit about body mechanics in his Q&A on Monday which was really helpful. He taught us his method of animating, and it seemed to work really well! Thanks Drew!

Today we had a Coffee Talk with Victoria and Angad Sohal (a current AMer) and he had a LOT of good tips when sending in your demo reel! And there was all the random talk, but that was a lot of fun too :)
Thanks Angad and Vic!

Will it be possible for me to finish 4 books during Maya Springboard? There's SO many resources out there, but not enough time to read them all! Ack! But I must try!!

I got to meet a lot of great classmates too! Yay! Can't wait to see what you guys animate!

And here's some pictures of me and my Duggy!

Happy animating!

Week 1 - Maya Springboard

So week 1 is pretty chill. So far we had a Q&A session with our admissions person (which I accidentally missed...oops) and I thought I was having MAY-JOR tech issues with the site...which I wasn't. I guess the first three weeks are supposed to be uber chill and just trying to get to know the campus and maybe do some tutorials.

In the mean time, I thought I would watch all the orientation videos and start drawing again! I've been hooked on The Big Bang Theory and thought I would draw Sheldon looking inquisitively at Leonard. Here's what I came up with...

SHELDOR

I've realized my drawings have deteriorated...I've gotta start drawing more....

Animation Mentor!

I got accepted into Animation Mentor!

It's so exciting! Every semester I get mentored by a professional animator to build my skills and demo reel. Hm...I need to remember to upload my animations in between assignments so I can see my growth. Hopefully in the next two years, I'll see my name on the big screen!

Welcome!

Welcome internet surfers to my online portfolio!

I hope you enjoy my artwork. My skills are still a work in progress, but I hope you enjoy it! I am focusing on animation, but please leave constructive criticism to any of my art pieces.

I will be blogging time to time so please keep an eye out and bear with me!

Thanks and hope to hear from all of you soon :)
